WPL Referees have a new look for 2017/18

Welsh Premier League referees will have a new look for the 2017/18 season after the Football Association of Wales signed a new deal with kit suppliers adidas.

A spokesperson for adidas said: “We believe that through sport, we have the power to change lives. From the start of the 2017/18 season we’ll begin a new partnership with the Welsh Premier League and we’re excited to be supporting the individuals who will help the game go from strength to strength in Wales.”

Ray Ellingham, the FAW’s National Referees Manager, added: “The deal we’ve got with adidas will raise the profile of match officials in Wales.

“The referees are now athletes… there’s a lot more training and they need to look right. To wear the kit, the same manufacturer as the National Team, makes them feel part of the national game more.”

The Welsh Premier League kicks off on Friday (11 August) with Bala Town v Newtown, Bangor City v The New Saints and Prestatyn Town v Connah's Quay Nomads.

On Saturday (12 August), Cefn Druids welcome Cardiff Met University and Carmarthen Town go to Llandudno.

The first live match of the season on S4C's Sgorio is Barry Town United v Aberystwyth Town at Jenner Park on Sunday, 13 August.
