WALES SQUAD CHANGES

David Cotterill has been forced to withdraw from the Wales squad ahead of crucial European Qualifiers.

David Cotterill has been forced to withdraw from the Wales squad ahead of crucial European Qualifiers.

David Cotterill has been ruled out of the forthcoming European Qualifying matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Andorra after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Cotterill was injured in Birmingham City’s 2-0 win against Leeds United last Saturday and will now be forced to sit out the crucial matches, from which, Wales need a point to qualify for the UEFA EURO 216 Finals in France next summer.

The winger’s replacement in the squad is Wes Burns, who will join up with Chris Coleman’s squad from the U21 team.

Burns, who plays for Bristol City, has made 12 appearances and scored five goals for the U21s, two of which were netted against Luxembourg in the recent 3-1 victory in a qualifying match for UEFA U21 Championship.

As a result, Geraint Williams has drafted in Callum Saunders from Crewe Alexandra for the key qualifier away to Denmark on Friday, 9 October.

Jordan Williams, who is on loan at Swindon Town from Liverpool, has also been forced to withdraw from the U21 squad with Williams calling up Tom Lockyer of Bristol Rovers as his replacement.
