Wales C international manager Mark Jones has announced Owain Tudur Jones as his assistant ahead of their match against England on 20 March.
Wales v England
C INTERNATIONAL MATCH
- Tuesday, 20 March 2018
- Jenner Park, Barry
- Kick off: 7:30pm
With 7 Welsh caps to his name OTJ, as he’s affectionately known by fans, will add a wealth of experience to the coaching staff.
Manager Mark Jones says Tudur Jones will be a big motivator for his squad. “He’s the prime example of how a Welsh Premier League player can make a name for himself. He joined Swansea City from Bangor City and ended up being a professional footballer for 10-12 years.
"This game could be a stepping stone for some of our players and OTJ will be able to pass on his experiences to the squad. I can’t wait, it’s going to be the cream of the WPL against the cream of the National League.”
As a defensive midfielder, Tudur Jones started his career in the Welsh Premier League with Bangor City before joining Swansea City to help them climb up the English League system.
Following spells at Norwich, Yeovil and Brentford, Tudur Jones finished his playing career in Scotland where he played for Inverness, Hibernian and Falkirk.
Speaking about the appointment, Tudur Jones said it’s a challenge he couldn’t turn down. “Having played through the Welsh international setup it feels like I’m going full circle.
"The WPL really kicked off my career. Representing your country at any level is an honour, it really does mean something. The selected squad will be lucky enough to have the opportunity to wear the red shirt.”
Hugely honoured to be named Assistant Manager for the Wales ‘C’ (but really ‘B’) squad for the upcoming international vs England . Looking forward to working with Jonah, the rest of the staff & the players. #Cymru @Cymru— Owain Tudur Jones (@OwainTJones17) January 31, 2018
“There’ll be one training camp before the game. We have a base of a squad decided already but there’s certainly spaces up for grabs over the next few weeks. With some exciting games coming up in the WPL through February it’s a great chance for some players to stand out.”
The C side will consist of players that must be Welsh eligible and playing their football within the Welsh pyramid structure.
The squad will be announced during the week commencing Monday, 26 February with the match being played on Tuesday, 20 March (KO 7:30pm Jenner Park, Barry).
Ticket information will be released in due course.
