Cymru put on a stunning performance for the record-breaking crowd at Cardiff City Stadium as 5,445 people came through the turnstiles for the highest ever attendance at a Women’s international match.
Cymru 4-0 Estonia
FIFA Women's World Cup Qualifier
- Tuesday, 26 October 2021
- Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff
Gemma Grainger’s team were relentless when going forward and it was only a matter of time before the Estonian defence would crack; and it was Sophie Ingle who saw some daylight shining through when her through ball to Angharad James was calmly slotted past goalkeeper Karina Kork.
Somehow Estonia kept Cymru to just the one goal at the half-time break but within minutes of the restart, Helen Ward scored her 44th goal when she got on the end of an excellent defence splitting pass from Rhiannon Roberts.
Cymru were soon out of sight when Ceri Holland cut inside on her right foot to cross into the box, where she found Natasha Harding’s run. Harding’s first effort was saved by Kork but she netted the rebound for 3-0.
The Red Wall were treated to more before the full-time whistle was blown, when with the final kick of the game Ingle took full advantage of a ricochet off a defender to open up space to strike home the fourth goal.
Cymru remain undefeated in the qualifying group for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Gemma Grainger’s team will continue on the road to the World Cup when they welcome Greece to Parc Y Scarlets, Llanelli on 26 November.
