Nomads and Saints progress in Europe

Domestic football has enjoyed a successful week in European competitions this week with both The New Saints and Connah’s Quay Nomads progressing in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League respectively. 

The Nomads pulled off the biggest win of the week as they eliminated Scottish Premier League outfit Kilmarnock from the Europa League 3-2 on aggregate. 

In the first-leg of the tie, Kilmarnock scored two late goals after Connah’s Quay had taken a 75thminute lead but Andy Morrison’s side stunned their hosts in the second-leg to win 2-0 and progress 3-2 on aggregate.

The Nomads will now play Partizan Belgrade in the 2nd qualifying round with the first-leg at Belle Vue, Rhyl on Thursday, 25 July at 6:30pm. 

Meanwhile, The New Saints are through to the 2nd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League after they dispatched of Kosovan club Feronikeli, with Dean Ebbe’s 67th minute strike being the decisive goal in a 3-2 aggregate win.

The New Saints welcome FC Copenhagen to Park Hall on Tuesday, 23 July at 7:00pm.
