Newtown to host JD Welsh Cup Semi-Finals

The Football Association of Wales has confirmed the details of this season’s JD Welsh Cup Semi-Final ties.

Latham Park, the home of Newtown AFC, will play host to both matches over the weekend of 30th and 31st March 2019.

The New Saints will meet Barry Town United on Saturday 30 March in the first tie (kick-off 19:30), which will be broadcast live on S4C.

Saints last met Barry in the competition back in 2015/16, winning 5-2 in the Fourth Round at Jenner Park on their way to securing their sixth cup win at Wrexham against Airbus UK Broughton.

The second tie will see Cardiff Met and Connah’s Quay Nomads meet on Sunday 31 March (kick-off 12:30) in a game that will be live streamed on the Sgorio Facebook page and S4C website.

Met and Nomads have already crossed paths in one semi-final this season, the Archers winning 1-0 on Deeside in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Cup holders Connah's Quay will however also be aiming to reach their second cup final of the season, having already secured a place in the SPFL IRN-BRU Cup Final.

Andrew Howard, FAW Head of Competitions, said:

“An enthralling weekend of JD Welsh Cup action lies ahead at the end of the month and given the unpredictable drama that we have already seen this season, it’s too difficult to call who will win a place in the 132nd JD Welsh Cup Final.

“I’m delighted that both JD Welsh Cup Semi-Finals will be shown live by our broadcast partner S4C. The draw has provided us with two mouth-watering ties between the top two teams from the north and the top two teams from the south and we are able to showcase both matches in an excellent stadium in central Wales.

“Due to blocked transmission hours on the Saturday and the possibility of extra-time and penalties, we are restricted in terms of possible broadcast slots, so the opportunity of a live stream on the Sunday, enables those that cannot attend the match, to watch the drama unfold.”

Ticket information for both ties will be announced later this week.
