Wales Women’s final 2018 Cyprus Cup match takes place today (7 March) as Jayne Ludlow’s squad takes on Austria at 9:00 GMT.
Austria are ranked 21st in the world and reach the semi-finals of the 2017 UEFA European Championships, where they lost against Denmark on penalties.
The Austrians currently sit third in their 2019 World Cup Qualifying group, behind Spain and Finland.
Wales will be more than familiar with Dominik Thalhammer’s side, having faced each other in the 2017 UEFA European Championships qualifiers.
Austria claimed the points in the first match, beating Wales 3-0 but Ludlow’s side responded strongly in the home match at Rodney Parade, Newport as they earned a goalless draw against a strong side.
Wales will be looking for a positive result after a strong 2018 Cyprus Cup campaign.
Captained by Sophie Ingle, the squad has played 3 higher ranked sides; beating Finland 1-0, losing 3-0 to Italy and a goalless draw against Switzerland in the final group game.
Jayne Ludlow says the match against Austria will be another tough test: “We’ve played against them before, so we know about their strengths. The game will be a great chance to see how far we’ve come as a squad, it’s the perfect preparation ahead of our key World Cup qualifying matches.”
