The draws for the 2019 UEFA European Under-19 Championship Elite Round as well as the 2020 UEFA European Under-19 Championship and Under-17 Championship Qualifying Rounds have taken place at UEFA HQ today (6 December).

UEFA U17 & U19 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

2020 #U19EURO Qualifying Round (13-19 November)

  • Russia, Poland (Hosts), Kosovo. Wales hosting.

2020 #U17EURO Qualifying Round (9-15 October)

  • Netherlands (Hosts), Slovenia, Kosovo.

Wales will travel to the Netherlands for the 2019 U19 Elite Round where Paul Bodin’s side will face the Dutch, Spain and Slovenia between 20-26 March in group 4. The group winners qualify to join hosts Armenia in the finals from 14 to 27 July.

Wales reached the elite round in November after advancing through the qualifying round held in North Wales. Bodin's side suffered an unlucky 2-1 defeat against Scotland on the opening day of the tournament before beating top seeds Sweden 2-1 in the next match. Qualification through second place was secured on the final day thanks to goals from Lewis Collins and Sam Bowen in a 2-0 win against San Marino in Bangor.

For the 2020 U19 European Championship Qualifying Round, Wales will host group 5 after being drawn alongside Russia, Poland and Kosovo. The games will be played between 13-19 November with venues to be confirmed.

We've got a fantastic draw for the elite round, it's a great chance against some top teams in European football. Hopefully everyone will be available for selection and we can give a good account of ourselves. We haven’t got any international windows before March but we’re hoping to see the players as much as possible and put everything into preparing for the tournament. It’s going to be an exciting few months.

– U19 manager Paul Bodin

Meanwhile, the 2020 U17 qualifying round draw will see Wales play the Netherlands, Slovenia and Kosovo in group 12. Matches will be played between 9-15 October 2019 and the group will be hosted by the Dutch.

It’s a good draw for the U17s. the Dutch are hosting and they are a strong football nation but U17s football is always unpredictable and I think we can get results against any of the teams in the group. We’re hoping to get together early next year and get some training camps and mini-tournaments between now and October to build a squad that will put their all into representing Wales.

– U17 manager Rob Edwards
