Desmond Shanklin

It is with great sadness that the Football Association of Wales reports the passing of Mr Desmond Shanklin, Life Vice President of the association.

Des was President of the FAW from 2000 to 2003 and was a very popular, long-serving member of the FAW.

A gentleman of the game, Des was a popular figure in West Wales football in particular and supported Pembroke Borough FC, where he was also the club’s secretary. He was also Club President of Haverfordwest County, where a hospitality suite was named after him.  In addition to this, Des was also the secretary for the Welsh League.

David Griffiths, FAW President, commented: “Des was a gentleman of the game and devoted his life to football in addition to many years of service to the Football Association of Wales.

“He will be sorely missed by all those at the FAW and everyone’s thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
