Lauren Smith has announced the 20-player squad that will represent Cymru in the #WU17EURO qualifying round at the end of the month.

#WU17EURO Fixtures

Cymru v Russia

13:00 22/09 Ringkobing Stadium

Denmark v Cymru

13:00 25/09 Ringkobing Stadium

Cymru v North Macedonia

13:00 28/09 Skjern Stadium

The side will travel to Denmark where they will face the hosts as well as Russia and North Macedonia. Midfielder Carrie Jones has been selected after winning her first senior cap against the Faroe Islands last month and there is strong representation from the Orchard WPWL with five players selected from clubs involved in the league. Smith will be taking charge of the squad as Jayne Ludlow continues preparations for the senior team's qualifying round match against Belarus.

A number of the players selected were involved in last year’s U17 squad which reached the elite round of the tournament and recently played in the UEFA U16 development tournament. Smith hopes those experiences will help the players for the upcoming matches.

Preparations have gone well over the past few months. We have had several training camps where the players have worked hard and met the challenges we have set them so far. We're hoping that playing in the elite round early this year will give the players the experience to understand the physical demands needed for 3 games in 8 days.

– Lauren Smith

The top two sides in each group plus the two third-placed teams with the best record against the top two in their section join top seeds Spain and holders Germany in the elite round draw on 21 November 2019. Teams in the elite round will compete for a place in the finals which take place in Sweden in May 2020.
