Cymru to host #WU19EURO 2021 qualifying round

The draw for the 2020/21 UEFA #WU19EURO championship qualifying round took place at UEFA HQ today (29 November).

Cymru were drawn into group 3 alongside Slovakia, North Macedonia and top seeds France. It was decided that the tournament would be hosted in Wales with matches held on 21, 24 and 27 October 2020 (venues TBC).

The top two teams in the group progress to the elite round in spring 2021 alongside top seeds Spain. The three third-placed teams with the best record against the leading pair in their group will also qualify for the elite round. Seven teams will then qualify from the elite round for the finals in Belarus that summer, joining the hosts.

Hosting the tournament gives us a great opportunity to raise awareness around the women's game and what we're doing.  Hopefully the Wales fans will turn up in their numbers and support the girls. It will be a tough challenge but the group of players potentially involved will have played elite round football with the U17s by then. Hopefully that experience will put them in good stead.

The finals for the #WU19EURO were previously held in Wales in 2013. Several players involved in the U19 squad at the time including Angharad James have featured for Cymru’s national senior team.
