The tournament’s aim is to use football to inspire homeless people to change their lives and to change public perceptions of homelessness. Wales defender Loren Dykes is an ambassador for Street Football Wales and recently invited the homeless squad to a training session prior to Wales’ 1-0 win against New Zealand.
Wales will be entering men’s and women’s teams not the competition where matches consist of two seven-minute halves played on specially constructed pitches for four a side football. Last year, the hosts Mexico won both the men’s mixed and women’s competitions.
As well as the football, the tournament will run nightly music events featuring artists across Wales and discussion forums tackling various social issues in Wales.
