Archers face FAW Women's Cup Capital Derby in Quarter-Final

FAW Women’s Cup holders Cardiff Met face a derby in the capital on Sunday as the Archers look to move a step closer to retaining the trophy.

A convincing 6-2 win away to Caldicot Town in the last round ensured a comfortable journey through to the quarter-final for Cardiff Met, following a previous win over Cyncoed by the same score line.

Now the side make the short journey to Cardiff City, who booked their place in the quarter-final with a 7-0 win over Aberystwyth Town, building on an earlier 6-1 win over Briton Ferry Llansawel. Cardiff City reached the semi-final of the competition last season.

Bethel needed extra-time to edge past Rhyl 4-3 in the last round having previously disposed of Airbus UK Broughton. They now face the daunting prospect of facing Ian Owen’s Swansea City on Sunday.

The current Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League leaders have already scored an incredible 31 goals in their last two games in the competition to reach the last eight, with Katy Hosford scoring a double hat-trick in the 18-0 win over Aberdare Town in the last round.

Connah’s Quay Nomads have made their ambitious intentions clear, and they will look to prove their worth when they take on Port Talbot Town in the last eight. The Nomads have played more games in the competition than any other team this season, having started their cup campaign with a 6-2 win away to Llanberis in the qualifying round.

Subsequent 3-1 and 8-3 victories over Pwllheli and Denbigh Town respectively booked their place in the last eight, while Hayley Williams’ Port Talbot Town side have claimed 3-1 wins over Swansea University and Barry Town United.

Llandudno and Abergavenny met at the same stage of the competition last season, and face each other again on Sunday in a return match. Abergavenny won the previous cup encounter 2-1, and eventually reached the final.

Llandudno have progressed to this stage with victories over Corwen and Llanfair United, while Abergavenny defeated Merthyr Town 7-2 and Cardiff BlueBelles 8-2 to show their competition credentials.
