Monday 5 September was a day to remember. Not only was it the opening match of the World Cup 2018 qualification campaign, but it also saw the launch of the FAW’s very first Executive Club at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Held in the Sony Suite, the Executive Club aims to provide a platform to become part of the Welsh Football Family where business professionals can interact, engage and socialise with like-minded people.

The evening began with a complimentary drink upon arrival for our members followed by a welcome into the exclusive lounge, a match day programme, and the chance to get to know the other guests. Keith Cooper, former premier league and international referee was on hand to open proceedings and formally launch the FAW Executive Club and introduce its partners; The Brogue Trader, and the St. David’s Hotel. Formalities out of the way, it was time to soak in the atmosphere at the Cardiff City Stadium, enjoy a drink or two, sample the complimentary buffet and start some valuable informal networking.

At 6.45pm team line ups were released, and who better to help announce this than Wales’ current all-time leading goal scorer, Ian Rush. ‘Rushy’ as he is affectionately known to his friends, and now Executive Club members also gave some reflections on the Euro 2016 tournament in France, and his thoughts to the match ahead. At 7.30pm guests were invited to take their seats and cheer the team on in the lounge’s exclusive match day seating area.

At half time it was time for Keith and Ian to dissect the first half and predict how the final 45 minutes will look whilst our guests are enjoying a tea/coffee and a welsh cake; All finished just in time for the second half.

A celebratory mood in the FAW Executive Club at full time, and with the bar open for one hour after the final whistle, steak and ale pies on the table for all guests, and a final Q&A session with Ian Rush to come, the atmosphere in the lounge was buoyant.

Speeches over, thanks been made to the official partners; The Brogue Trader, and The St David’s hotel, signed shirt raffled off by Mr Rush, it is time to close down the inaugural FAW Executive Club for the evening. On behalf of everyone at the FAW we hoped all that attended thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and we look forward to welcoming our current and new members back for our next match against Austria on 9 October.

Here is what some of our guests had to say about the evening:

“Having attended the first business club event at the Cardiff City Stadium for the Wales v Moldova game, I can’t stress how impressed we were and how much we enjoyed. I took a Client as my guest and not only were we impressed by the lounge, the view and the fantastic food, but also the fact that we got up close and personal with my hero – Ian Rush. We really can’t wait for the next event.”

Rhys Blumberg – Sales & Marketing Director, Genero Productions

"Being official partners of FAW, I attended the exciting launch of their Executive Club on 5th September 2016. Myself and my clients enjoyed the evening immensely, the event was a great success.  The service we received was fantastic and the food was amazing.

"I would defiantly recommend the Executive Club to any business that wants to connect with influential professionals and who enjoy the amazing game of football, because together we are always stronger. I look forward to seeing you again at the next event."
